The 2023 Volkswagen ID.X Performance Concept: Electric Drive Meets Sporty Sophistication

As electric vehicles continue to carve out a significant niche in the automobile industry, performance variants are inevitably driving up. Volkswagen is not one to stay behind, introducing its latest concept, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.X Performance. This all-electric sports limousine, with its 411 kW (558 PS) power and dynamic features, definitely does not fall under your average VW category.

Design and Styling: A Vision of Athletic Elegance

Unveiled at the ID. Treffen meet-up organized by fans in Ticino, the ID.X Performance shows off a dynamic overall appearance. The exterior of this all-electric limousine carries a host of sporty attributes, from the carbon-made front splitter and rear diffuser to the wider toe and lowered sports suspension. The sporty stance is further pronounced by 20-inch sports alloy wheels with a central lock, size 265 racing tires, and a rear carbon wing for necessary downforce. Tinted tail light clusters add an extra layer of athletic appeal to the high-performance electric limousine.

Inside, the ID.X Performance continues the sporty theme. Carbon bucket seats provide optimal support even during dynamic driving, while red accents highlight the interior's sporty characteristics.

Performance and Technology: Maximizing Electric Power

Beneath the hood, the ID.X Performance boasts a powerful dual-motor drive with 411 kW (558 PS). An additional asynchronous motor on the front axle complements the permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle, creating an all-wheel drive. The benefits of this drive type include short-time overload capability and particularly low drag losses. As a result, this motor type is ideal for delivering short-term power in the form of a boost function.

The vehicle's drive torque is managed by a Vehicle Dynamics Manager, which also oversees operation of the rear axle differential lock in the ID.X Performance. The energy of the dual-motor drive is supplied by the drive battery, capable of high continuous power output and short charging times with a charging capacity of up to 200 kW.

A Community Embracing Electric Future

Volkswagen presented the ID.X Performance at the international ID. Treffen, a meet-up for electric vehicle enthusiasts held in Locarno. The event, initiated and organized by ID. customers who are members of the ID. Drivers Club, provides a platform for shared passion and discussion on current developments in electric mobility. In 2023, the gathering is expected to set a new attendance record with more than 130 vehicles.

Steering Towards an Electrifying Horizon

With the 2023 Volkswagen ID.X Performance Concept, Volkswagen is making a clear statement about the possibilities of electric drive technology. Marrying sporty performance with elegant design cues, this all-electic limousine is a testament to Volkswagen's commitment to driving the future of mobility. It's a concept that does not just impress, but inspires, leading the charge towards a more electrifying horizon.
