MTM Audi RS3 R

“The Geneva Motor Show is all about Springtime – if not in the meteorological sense, then certainly for the Automobile world”. For Roland Mayer, CEO of the Wettstetten-based MTM GmbH and master-mind of the development of the powerful models from this tuning house, the Geneva Salon is amongst the most important of its kind. He explains that, “After the winter lull, people are keen to flashes of spring sunlight and innovative ideas”.

Well-disguised in a camouflage design, but still strutting its stuff, is the MTM S8 Talladega R, a luxury limousine with a predisposition for breaking records. Following a typically intensive rework by MTM, the 4.0 twin-turbo 8-cylinder now develops 802 hp (590 kW) at 6,000 rpm. 945 Nm of torque – developed almost linearly between 2,250 and 5,500 rpm – is transmitted with explosive force to the road surface via quattro drive system. From rest to 100 km/h takes a mere 3.1 seconds, to 200 km/h in less than 10 seconds, and to 300 km/h in under 29 seconds with a top speed of 350 km/h. The full-sized carbon-ceramic brakes lurking behind the 22” Bimoto alloys, shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 265/30 ZR 22 tyres, offer commensurate retardation. Other modifications include an aerodynamic package to improve high-speed stability and a tastefully upgraded interior. With an ex-works price of €124,000 for the standard S8, the Talladega S8 would probably cost around €200,000 depending on the extent of the modifications – and that would include fitting, warranty and taxes. According to Walter Röhrl, “the handling is superb” – “throttle response is fantastic!” – “power delivery is both outstanding and developed evenly“.

In partnership with the DIRKS group, MTM will debut the VW Amarok V8 DESERT edition, which follows in the footsteps of cruising-oriented STREET model. The imposing double-cab pick-up houses a 4.2-litre V8 TDi engine developing 410 hp (302 kW) and 930 Nm of torque between 2,000 - 3,000 rpm. The desert should quake when the Amarok V8 Passion DESERT is aroused. Rest to 100 km/h takes 6 seconds and the top speed is 240 km/h depending on the choice of tyre. The brakes have been upgraded to match the performance, measuring 405mm x 36mm at the front axle and 356 x 22mm at the rear. The well-proven Cooper off-road tyres in size 305/50 ZR 20 are mounted on BBS 10 x 20” rims and lend the DESERT a wilderness-ready appearance.

The MTM T6 E-motion is aimed at a more civilized audience. The latest addition to the high-performance range is driven by a 240 hp (207 kW) Bi-TDi motor mated to a 7-speed S-tronic gearbox to keep the power easily accessible. The special ingredient is provided by a 42 hp electric powered rear axle. The people carrier really flies with 282 hp (243 kW) since there is no less than 1,100 Nm of torque available between 1,400 and 2,400 rpm. It will reach 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds and has a maximum speed of over 200km/h. The standard brakes are more than adequate at coping with the extra performance on offer. 275/35 ZR 20 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres mounted on Bimoto 9 x 20 rims give a muscular appearance and surprisingly agile handling.

Agile handling is also shared with the fourth member of the MTM family, namely the RS3 R, that uses a 2.5 litre five-cylinder TFSi unit to produce 502 hp (370 kW) at 6,600 rpm. The considerable 650 Nm of torque available between 2,250 and 5,750 rpm is sufficient to propel this compact powerhouse very rapidly towards the horizon and the 7-speed S-Tronic transmission guarantees that a responsive gear is always engaged. Thus equipped, the RS3 R will reach 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, 200 km/h a mere 10 seconds later and max out at 300 km/h. Modifications hidden under the bonnet are matched by many eye-catching changes elsewhere. The MTM Individual interior makeover comprises of sporty and elegant plain leather with red stitching complemented by honeycomb-pattern quilting on the seat and backrest areas. At the front of the vehicle a carbon spoiler integrates with the diffuser to improve aerodynamics and imparts catwalk glamour on the show stand. Out on the asphalt the outward and inner changes build a picture of “sporty, super, supreme”. The MTM offerings for breath-taking forward thrust are exhibited on stand 2045 in Hall 2, with a press gathering scheduled for 13:15 on the 1st March.
