2011 Mazda Takeri Concept

Mazda Takeri Concept

Evolving from the Mazda SHINARI, Mazda TAKERI exhibits styling that re?ects the full nature of a Mazda CD sedan, with striking balance and a masculine power; the name TAKERI is derived from a Japanese word meaning ‘male.’

In developing TAKERI, Mazda was seeking a breakthrough CD sedan design. The aim was to balance striking emotional appeal with unmistakably sedan-like styling, and to do it at a level never achieved before. The result is uniquely sporty sedan styling that embodies the quality and allure demanded in the CD category.

Mazda TAKERI is fully equipped with the breakthrough SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY introduced on the Mazda CX-5. Its engine is the SKYACTIV-D new-generation highly ef?cient clean diesel, which, in combination with the six-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission and i-stop idling stop system, delivers re?ned performance that overturns the traditional unexciting diesel image, along with superior fuel ef?ciency.

The TAKERI concept also adopts Mazda’s regenerative braking system i-ELOOP that represents Step Two of Mazda’s Building Block Strategy, following i-stop.

Through the combination of regenerative braking, the highly ef?cient SKYACTIV powertrain and architecture, and i-stop, TAKERI delivers astonishingly high levels of both driving pleasure and outstanding environmental performance.

TAKERI is the embodiment of Mazda’s next-generation CD sedan vision, showing the ?air of KODO design while simultaneously achieving the ultimate ef?ciency for a vehicle without hybrid technologies

Exterior design

Building on the styling of the previous concept model, the Mazda SHINARI, Mazda focused on making TAKERI’s exterior design even more arresting by visually capturing a sense of coiled animal power stored and ready to explode into rapid motion, and ?tting it around the layout and packaging of a CD segment car. The powerful overhanging front fender line, sculpted over the wheels, evokes the image of a cheetah’s shoulder as it uses its front paws to grip the ground and quickly change direction. The rear fender line is the powerful in?ection of the hip as the cheetah kicks off to run. Building from these images and melding the rhythms of the differing front and rear shapes, the designers were able to clearly express a lean, muscular body and the sense of running free. In addition, the powerful axis that runs the full length of the vehicle evokes an image of the car’s spine, visually embodying a con?dent, masculine power as well as a sense of speed.

Needless to say, Mazda TAKERI stresses aerodynamic performance, adopting the features common to all new-generation Mazda cars equipped with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY. Superior aerodynamic performance was achieved by optimally tuning the air?ow over the upper body and ef?ciently rectifying the air?ow with the under?oor design

Front view

The deeply chiseled front view has the ‘signature wings’ that tell you immediately this is a new-generation Mazda. The entire front end has the solidity and con?dence appropriate for a CD sedan. Headlamps are set deep into the wings in sculpted mountings, suggesting a glint in the eye and a desire to run free.

Side view

While containing a comfortable space for four adults, the cabin is positioned further back to express dynamic proportions giving a superb balance between the stylistic beauty of a sedan, an emotionally appealing elegance, and an unparalleled expression of power that lets you intuitively feel the joy of driving.

Rear view

Similar to the front, the rear is deeply chiseled to express a strong sense of determination. The lines from the side and the shape of the trunk create a ?ne balance between a sense of speed and a sense of stability

Body color

A newly-developed red further accentuates the sculptured shapes and delicate in?ections of KODO design. This high-quality, passionate red ampli?es expression with depth, beautifully expressing gradations from highlights to shaded areas in sunlight, further enhancing the driver’s expectations.

Interior design

Taking the thinking behind Mazda SHINARI as a starting point, TAKERI’s interior is a high-level balance of the sense of speed and the functionality of the driver-car interface. Of course, materials used and the overall comfort and ambience of the cabin are appropriate for Mazda’s top-of-the-range CD sedan.

The ?owing lines from the upper section of the instrument panel to the door trim evoke a sense of speed and pulse-raising dynamism that is KODO design at its ?nest. The lower section of the instrument panel forms a strong horizontal line and the thick trim which looks like a part of the frame, runs horizontally from the passenger side to the center panel. The result is a sense of stability suited to a sedan, differing markedly from the SHINARI four-door sports coupe’s interior.

Further, the instrument panel garnish has a metal base with a clear coating that creates a fresh sense of newness. When struck by light, the base naturally has a metallic sheen, displaying a sense of depth and quality be?tting a CD sedan.

European Debute

European premiere for Mazda Takeri concept at Geneva

  • Mazda Takeri concept points to future design direction for next-generation saloon
  • Debut for Mazda’s first regenerative braking system, called i-ELOOP
  • All-new CX-5 compact crossover SUV brings SKYACTIV technologies to European market

Mazda will unveil its Takeri concept car for the first time in Europe at next month’s Geneva International Motor Show. Mazda Takeri is a next-generation mid-sized saloon featuring Mazda’s new and unique i-ELOOP regenerative braking technology. It will be joined on-stage by the all-new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV – equipped with the full range of Mazda’s breakthrough SKYACTIV technology – the MX-5 Special Edition Spring 2012 (on sale as the ‘Venture Edition’ in the UK), and an array of new technologies, plus a production model line-up.

The Takeri is the latest concept to adopt Mazda’s ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme, bringing a new level of strength and allure to saloon styling. The Mazda Takeri offers a taste of the future direction of Mazda’s next-generation CD-segment saloon, further developing the vision of the Mazda Shinari, an exciting four-door sports coupe concept showcased at Geneva last year. Under its captivating exterior, the Takeri features Mazda’s highly-efficient new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine with a fuel-saving ‘i-stop’ system and six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission.

The Takeri aims for the ultimate in energy efficiency without compromising on Mazda’s fun-to-drive performance and handling. It is the first Mazda car to be equipped with i-ELOOP – short for “Intelligent Energy Loop”. This is Mazda’s first regenerative braking system and uses a unique solution that converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration and stores it in an electric double-layer capacitor. The power is used to run the vehicle’s electric components, thereby reducing the load on the engine and increasing fuel economy by up to 10 percent. This contributes to the Mazda Takeri’s outstanding fuel economy, which is achieved at no sacrifice to performance or comfort.

The all-new Mazda CX-5 is the brand’s first production model incorporating the new ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme, and also the first built with the full range of SKYACTIV technology – engines, transmissions, body and chassis. The CX-5 compact crossover SUV delivers outstanding performance and responsive, predictable handling as well as a high-quality ride and exceptional safety. Class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions come courtesy of the CX-5’s extraordinary lightweight structure and sleek aerodynamic design, together with the remarkably frugal SKYACTIV engines (all featuring i-stop) and fuel-saving SKYACTIV transmissions.
