2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A Revisits Its Civilian Roots
The 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A borrows its name and color inspiration from the Willys CJ-2A, but Jeep takes a distinctly modern approach to the accommodations. This Rubicon-based special edition pairs orange wheels and period references with Nappa leather, a front trail camera, and everyday convenience features. It marks the 11th installment in Jeep’s yearlong Twelve 4 Twelve series, with a $4,995 package price and orders opening in October 2026.
Orange Wheels Do the Talking
The wheels make the strongest visual connection to the old Jeep. Their broad faces and small perimeter openings have an appropriately utilitarian look, although their bright orange finish attracts considerably more attention than the Wrangler’s familiar bodywork. Jeep calls the color Joose and applies it to exclusive 17-inch wheels, including the rear-mounted spare. Standard 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain tires supply the chunky proportions.
Orange tow hooks at both ends pick up the wheel color. Against Gobi’s sandy finish, those accents give the JL-2A a distinctive identity without requiring elaborate body graphics. The two-door’s compact proportions also suit the historical reference particularly well. It still looks like a current Wrangler, though, rather than an attempt to reproduce a CJ-2A.
Gobi returns for the 2027 model year and takes its cue from the original Jeep’s Harvest Tan paint. Jeep emphasizes Gobi for the two-door JL-2A and ’41 for the four-door, while the available palette also includes Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost, and Joose. Body-color fender flares and a matching three-piece hardtop tie the upper body together. Dark Metallic Grey trim adds contrast around the seven-slot grille, while the black bumpers keep the exterior from looking entirely color-coordinated.

A Reference to Working Jeeps
The Willys CJ-2A arrived in July 1945 as the first Jeep designed specifically for civilian buyers. Willys-Overland built it in Toledo, Ohio, adapting the military Willys MB for agricultural and industrial work. The CJ designation stood for Civilian Jeep, and the changes went beyond removing military equipment: the CJ-2A added a tailgate, a rear power takeoff, larger headlights, and the seven-slot grille that remains central to Jeep’s identity.
Its paint choices also departed from military restraint. Buyers could pair Harvest Tan bodywork with Sunset Red wheels or Pasture Green paint with Autumn Yellow wheels. The 2027 Wrangler JL-2A draws on that contrasting body-and-wheel formula, although its Joose wheels interpret the Sunset Red reference rather than reproduce the original shade.
Farm References Meet Nappa Leather
Inside, Jeep gives the Wrangler JL-2A a color-and-material combination that it has not previously offered in a Wrangler. Nappa Heritage Tan leather covers the seats, and a Nappa PUR mid-bolster spans the instrument panel. Bison Brown finishes the door panels, lower dashboard, and center console. Desert Orange stitching connects those warm interior colors to the much brighter wheels outside.
The tan dashboard section makes a useful visual break between the dark upper dash and brown lower surfaces. Orange seams outline the upholstery and trim without overwhelming the cabin. For all the agricultural references, Jeep clearly has not tried to recreate the sparse accommodations of a postwar work vehicle.
There’s a few quieter historical touches, too. A satin-chrome Willys-Overland medallion decorates the shifter, while the HVAC vents carry a seven-slot-grille graphic on one side and a Willys silhouette on the other. On the rear swing gate, an exclusive plaque recreates artwork from the CJ-2A’s dashboard data plate. Its farm and factory scenes acknowledge what those early civilian Jeeps actually did, rather than simply adding another anniversary emblem.
Rubicon Underneath, Convenience on Top
The 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A uses the Wrangler Rubicon as its foundation and carries Jeep’s Trail Rated designation. The package centers on its finishes, commemorative details, and included equipment. Jeep has not specified the edition’s engine lineup, horsepower, torque, 0-to-60-mph acceleration, or top speed.
A standard front TrailCam gives the driver a view immediately ahead of the vehicle, and its integrated washer helps clear dirt from the lens. Jeep also includes the Convenience Group, which adds remote start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a universal garage door opener. Those features put some practical equipment alongside the cosmetic changes.

The Price of Looking Back
Jeep will open the JL-2A order books in October 2026. The $4,995 figure covers the package, not the complete vehicle. Jeep puts the difference at just $115 over a similarly equipped Rubicon, an important distinction from comparing it with a Rubicon that lacks the bundled features. Jeep has not provided a complete starting MSRP for either JL-2A body style.
The appeal here rests on a specific look rather than a new performance claim. Orange wheels, a coordinated tan-and-brown cabin, and carefully placed Willys details give the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A more substance than a badge-only edition. The leather-lined result sits a long way from the CJ-2A’s working life, but the contrasting colors make the historical connection easy to recognize.
