Chevrolet Unveils the 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison

Entering the off-road vehicle stage with a new breed of beast, Chevrolet introduces the 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison. Developed alongside American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the Bison pushes the boundaries of off-road truck capability. The vehicle was not only tested but proven in competition by champion offroad racer Chad Hall and on the famous Rubicon Trail. Packed with extensive AEV enhancements, the Bison elevates off-road performance while maintaining quality ride, handling, and safety.

Off-Road Capability

The Bison boasts unique, segment-exclusive features such as Multimatic front and rear Jounce Control Dampers. This new truck model is armored with AEV's heavy-duty winch-capable front bumper, rear bumper, fender flares, and 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels fitted with 35-inch OD Mud/Terrain tires – a segment exclusive. Further contributing to its off-road prowess are boron steel skid plates and rocker protectors, contributing to its best-in-class underbody protection.

With respect to angles and clearances, the Bison commands impressive stats. It achieves a best-in-class approach angle of 38.2 degrees, departure angle of 26 degrees, breakover angle of 26.9 degrees, and a ground clearance of 12.2 inches (approximately 31 cm).

Power and Performance

At the heart of the Bison is a standard 2.7L Turbo High-Output powertrain that delivers 310 horsepower, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Power-locking front and rear differentials, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and the ZR2 chassis further enhance its off-road capability and performance. The vehicle is equipped with both 4WD and a 2-speed transfer case for varied terrain challenges.

The Bison's payload capacity is stated at 1,050 pounds (~475 kilograms) with a maximum trailering capacity of 5,500 pounds (~2,495 kilograms).

Interior & Infotainment

Inside, the Colorado ZR2 Bison showcases unique distinctions with AEV badging on the front headrests and all-weather floor liners. Infotainment is handled by Chevrolet's system, featuring an 11.3-inch diagonal color touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and Wi-Fi Hotspot capability.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Emphasizing safety, the Chevy Safety Assist is a standard feature that includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, and IntelliBeam auto high beam control. Optional Adaptive Cruise Control is also available.

With these credentials, the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison makes a compelling case in the midsize off-road truck category. However, prospective buyers and off-road enthusiasts will certainly compare and contrast this newcomer with established models to determine if it indeed offers the best mix of performance, capability, safety, and value.
