2026 BMW X5 and iX5 Get M Performance Options

BMW is giving the fifth-generation 2026 X5 and the first all-electric iX5 two distinct accessory paths. M Performance Parts address the exterior, wheels, and, eventually, the exhaust on a forthcoming V8 model. A separate collection handles the less glamorous work of carrying luggage, holding rear-seat devices, and keeping wet shoes from ruining the carpet. The distinction matters: these accessories supplement the SUVs rather than constitute another model or trim level.

A Sharper Outline, With Plenty Going On

The new BMW X5 and iX5 combine a broad, upright body with a relatively narrow pair of central kidneys. A dark horizontal band connects the grille area to the headlights, whose diagonal lighting elements add another geometric detail. Squared-off wheel openings give the sides some definition, while slim rear lights emphasize width. The proportions look substantial without relying entirely on grille size, although the angular lower front bumper already looks busy before any accessories arrive.

BMW adds carbon-fiber front trim within the illuminated surround of its redesigned Iconic Glow grille. A three-section carbon-fiber splitter extends the lower edge of the nose, using the material to keep weight down while serving an aerodynamic role. At the other end, buyers can add a gloss-black roof spoiler and carbon-fiber rear flow blades on either side of the diffuser.

The M Performance mirror caps and rear diffuser use aramid instead of carbon fiber. That choice has a practical reason beyond the woven appearance. BMW describes aramid as comparable to carbon fiber in structure and strength, but it allows electromagnetic signals to pass through. The mirror sensors and antennas supporting automatic tailgate operation can therefore continue working without interference from the accessory panels.

Together, the pieces put more visual emphasis on the SUVs’ lower edges and rear roofline. They also introduce several contrasting textures to an already detailed design. BMW assigns the components aerodynamic functions, but it has not quantified changes in drag or downforce.

Bigger Wheels and a V8 Exhaust Plan

The range of complete wheel-and-tire options span 21 to 23 inches, with summer and winter packages in the catalog. BMW’s new 23-inch aluminum-alloy design carries the name Y-spoke 1110 M Bicolor. It combines Jet Black paint with gloss-machined surfaces, creating a more intricate, high-contrast appearance than a uniformly dark wheel.

Those 23-inch wheels should provide the strongest visual change among the accessories, filling the large wheel openings more assertively. BMW has not detailed tire dimensions or established which seasonal packages will accompany each diameter, so the overall size range should not imply that every combination will be available.

The 2026 BMW iX5 naturally has no use for an exhaust upgrade. For a future V8-powered BMW M Performance model, however, the company plans an M Performance Sound silencer system. Matching carbon-fiber tailpipe finishers will also dress up the V8’s standard exhaust, allowing the cosmetic change without requiring the replacement silencer. BMW has not named that future variant or specified an output increase for the planned exhaust.

More Room Above and Behind the Cabin

The BMW Aero roof boxes offer a more practical way to change the 2026 X5 or iX5. Buyers can choose 350, 450, or 550 liters of capacity, equivalent to approximately 12.4, 15.9, and 19.4 cubic feet. Each size gains 30 liters, or about 1.1 cubic feet, over its corresponding predecessor. BMW also claims improved aerodynamics, though it provides no numerical reduction in drag or estimate of the effect on electric driving range.

Matching BMW Aero and Flex luggage bags come in combinations intended to make better use of each roof box’s interior. There is also a separate 300-liter rear box, roughly 10.6 cubic feet, that mounts on a BMW rear bicycle carrier. That box accommodates two BMW Flex transport-box luggage bags. It is an alternative storage location, not an extension of the vehicle’s enclosed cargo area.

BMW uses abrasion-resistant ballistic polyester for the bags and adds nubuck detailing. Ergonomic handles and a padded shoulder strap provide carrying options, while exterior side pockets and interior compartments organize smaller items. A separate shoe bag keeps footwear apart from the rest of the luggage. These are modest details, but they address the handling of cargo after it leaves the SUV.

Rear-Seat Screens Without Permanent Hardware

Inside the 2026 BMW X5 and BMW iX5, the standard Travel & Comfort System sits on the backs of the front seats and includes a magnetic smartphone holder. Optional tablet mounts expand that arrangement rather than replace it with a built-in entertainment screen.

BMW offers a regular Travel & Comfort tablet holder and a Pro version. The latter adds another articulation joint for a wider choice of viewing positions, along with silver-accented surfaces. A separately available smartphone adapter clips into either tablet holder, accommodates phones up to 7 inches, and leaves their ports accessible.

For protection rather than entertainment, BMW offers waterproof all-weather mats for both seating rows and a waterproof luggage-compartment mat. Those pieces complete the everyday-use side of the accessory range, with no carbon-fiber flourish required.

Equipment Choices, Not a Performance Specification

BMW plans the main M Performance Parts and functional accessories around the X5 and iX5 launch, while the V8 exhaust remains a future addition. The company has not supplied U.S. accessory pricing or quantified changes to horsepower, torque, 0-to-60-mph acceleration, or top speed. Vehicle pricing and powertrain performance figures also remain unspecified in this rollout.

For the 2026 BMW X5 and iX5, the clearest changes concern appearance and carrying flexibility. The aramid components show useful attention to sensor compatibility, and the cargo accessories offer measurable extra volume. The M branding brings a more assertive look, but buyers should distinguish those visible changes from a documented increase in performance.
