A Glimpse into the Future: The 2013 Acura NSX Concept

The 2013 Detroit Auto Show witnessed the unveiling of the Acura NSX Concept, an evolved interpretation of the future-generation supercar. This concept provided an intriguing glimpse into the direction of NSX's interior design. Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations, stated the development was remarkably faithful to the original concept, and it aims to create a unique and dynamic driving experience in the exotic sports car market.

A Design That Echoes Supercar Standards

The NSX Concept carries the quintessential blueprint of Acura's soon-to-be-released vehicle. The design embraces a low and wide stance synonymous with its predecessor from the 2012 North American International Auto Show. The modern, clean surfacing, coupled with edgy details, projects a high-tech feel and an unmistakable supercar demeanor.

Exploring New Vistas in Interior Design

For the first time, Acura revealed a possible direction for the NSX's interior design. The concept integrates a "Human Support Cockpit" theme, an embodiment of Acura's focus on the harmony between human and machine. This design framework includes superb visibility, a distinctive driving position, and an intuitive "Simple Sports Interface" that reduces interior distractions, ensuring that the driver remains engrossed in the driving experience.

Chief Designer Jon Ikeda emphasized the design's intention to amplify the psychological and emotional facets of handling a supercar to its limits, thereby reinforcing the bond between man and machine, a principle that will pervade all future Acura models.

Powertrain: A Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive System

The Acura NSX intends to redefine the sports car experience by blending supercar dynamic capabilities with advanced environmental performance. This approach led to the announcement of a mid-mounted, direct-injected V-6 engine integrated with Acura's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system for the NSX.

This groundbreaking three-motor high-performance hybrid system fuses torque vectoring all-wheel drive with advanced hybrid efficiency. With one motor united with the V-6 engine and two motors driving the front wheels, the system enables the instantaneous delivery of negative or positive torque during cornering, promising a new level of performance that is set to eclipse existing AWD systems.

Developed Globally, Made in America

The creation of the new NSX is a global endeavor, driven by a team of designers and engineers at Honda R&D Americas, Inc. based in Los Angeles, California, and Raymond, Ohio. In addition to the international development, the NSX will also be produced in a new facility located in central Ohio, cementing its American roots.

As we anticipate the production model, one thing is certain - Acura seems to be shaping an exceptional driving experience that could potentially transform the sports car paradigm.
